Leon Yin, Investigative Data Journalist, The Markup. Leon translates story ideas into testable hypotheses—the cornerstone of our journalism. He builds datasets, runs experiments, and audits algorithms to measure the impacts of technology on society. Before joining The Markup, he was a research scientist at NYU’s Social Media and Political Participation lab, a research affiliate at the Data & Society Research Institute, and a software engineer at NASA. He contributes to several open source Python projects, including the YouTube Data API and urlExpander.
