Elizabeth Sweetland is currently a senior lawyer in the federal Inspector General community. She advises high-level officials on complex issues involving independent oversight of government agencies. Ms. Sweetland has worked on audits of billion-dollar contracts, criminal fraud investigations, and sensitive civil litigation at agencies including the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Export-Import Bank, the National Science Foundation, and the Peace Corps. She gained a macro-level understanding of federal oversight issues during her tenure with the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. Before pivoting to her present career in the civil service, Ms. Sweetland served on active duty in the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, where she specialized in criminal law. Her military career culminated with an assignment managing over 300 criminal defense attorneys worldwide. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she earned both her law degree and a B.A. with distinction.
