This website displays an interactive relief and rescue map of New York City. The map shows the locations of restricted zones, relief organizations, grief counseling, blood donation centers, hospitals, missing persons, shelters, staging areas, places of worship, and the family assistance center. You can move around the map and zoom in and out. You can double click to get a larger map showing and identifying the collapsed or partially collapsed buildings and those with major damage. Double clicking on some information links you to other useful sites.

This site is produced by the National Security Archive. This entity ”was founded in 1985 by a group of journalists and scholars who had obtained documentation from the U.S. government under the Freedom of Information Act and sought a centralized repository for these materials.” “The Archive is simultaneously a research institute on international affairs, a library and archive of declassified U.S. documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, a public interest law firm defending and expanding public access to government information through the FOIA, and an indexer and publisher of the documents in books, microfiche, and electronic formats.” It is funded by publications and private philanthropists. Documents are in PDF format and “include assessments of the terrorist threat and a CIA profile of Usama bin Ladin, presidential and Defense Department policy directives, the details about U.S. response to specific terrorist attacks, and evaluations of U.S. government preparedness to deal with terrorism.
