Margaret Berkland is the president of Data Vision Design, Inc., which has provided applications development, business process design, and other IT services to the legal industry since 1989. Prior to becoming the president of DataVision Design, Inc., Margaret was the Info. Resources Technology Specialist for McKenna & Cuneo, where she still performs those duties on a contract basis. Margaret designed and maintains the firm’s internal homepage of Internet links, and manages the links, link annotations, and article content for McKenna & Cuneo’s Web site.

California Local Codes and Charters

California Local Codes and Charters is provided by the Institute of Governmental Studies Library at UC Berkeley. The list includes their currently available codes and charters issued in loose-leaf format. The links to electronic editions are included, if they exist. The list is arranged in alphabetical order by jurisdiction. You can also jump to specific areas of the alphabetical list by clicking on a letter of the alphabet.

LookSmart and the Gale Group, in partnership, provide free access to full-text of articles published in 350+ magazines and journals. The articles date from 1998. You can search by keyword or by one of the nine subject categories which include Busines & Finance, Computers & Technology, News & Society, and Reference & Education. The list of publications can be viewed by subject or alphabetically. There is a link to each publication’s website with a brief one sentence description of the publication. A successful search displays the article title, periodical, and short description, with a link to the full-text of the article.

LIRT Library Instruction Tutorials

This site includes materials for developing tutorials for any type of library. Included are sections on Website Evaluation Criteria for Libraries; General Guides to Research; Subject-specific Guides; Interactive Tutorials; Guides to the Internet & Evaluation of Resources; Designing Tutorials; and a Bibliography.

The Researching Librarian

This site was created for both the seasoned veteran librarian or the librarian new to the field. Links are provided to freely searchable citation databases, funding information, relevant journals, statistics and statistical methods, useful research tools, current awareness sources, and a discussion board.

This site provides access to a wealth of valuable information on telecommuting. There is a quiz on basic knowledge of telecommuting issues, an article on how to use auction style job sites to find telecommuting freelance/contract positions, information on what skills are hot right now, information on time management, and a discussion on easing the isolation of telecommuting. Thirty subject categories of information are provided including agreements, career tips, jobs, starting point, and telework centres. Under Essentials are links to information on what jobs are best suited for telecommuting, telework & flex friendly companies, and a telecommuting forum.

This site claims to provide “everything you need to know about dealing with privacy on your site, plus, news, resources and more” for web publishers. It offers to show web users how to protect themselves online, file a complaint, check their privacy iq and more. There are links to a Privacy Resource Guide which can assist in creating a privacy statement for your website and an Online Safety Guideline to assist in making your online experience more safe. Also included are tips on using bulletin boards and chat rooms; credit cards and reporting; and passwords.
