“The Tobacco Industry Documents Web site has been designed to implement the President’s Executive Memorandum (July 17, 1998) by increasing access to these tobacco industry documents and by making the documents more easily available via the Internet.” The website allows direct access to Minnesota Tobacco Document Depository which holds the world’s largest hardcopy cache of tobacco industry documents. The website contains links to other Internet sites that have captured tobacco industry documents. A merged searchable version of the 4B Index has been provided by the tobacco company defendants. “Generally, the documents are indexed and searchable by the following information: Document ID, Author, Recipient, Persons Copied, Date, Type of Document, Title, Production Date, Company Name, Box Number, and Bates Numbers.” There are links to industry document websites with brief descriptions and a glossary. The Minnesota Select Subset section contains pages from the total Minnesota Depository that were selected by lawyers as being key to the trial. These pages are available as s of the original documents or as text files scanned from the documents. They can be searched by full text. The Guildford-British American Tobacco Documents section contains “7,000 documents chosen by lawyers for having the greatest relevance to the Minnesota trial and the population of that state.” These documents are also searchable. This site is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“This site contains key litigation documents from cases brought by the Attorneys General of forty-four states and similar actions against the tobacco industry.” There is a Tobacco Lawsuit Summary Chart arranged alphabetically by state with date filed, attorney/governor/political party affiliation, case name and number, and firm. Key litigation documents are arranged by state and other jurisdictions. Documents can be viewed as web pages or PDF documents. The collection was originally developed by the Tobacco Control Resource Center at Northeastern University, Boston and is now a part of the UCSF collection.
